BOAZ KIRSCHENBAUM ~ Registered Piano Technician (RPT)

Boaz Kirschenbaum lives year-round on the island of Martha's Vineyard in West Tisbury. Having grown up on Nantucket, he is familiar with each island's unique character. In addition to his practice on the Vineyard, Boaz travels regularly to Nantucket to service pianos there.

As an Independent Registered Piano Technician servicing clients and institutions on the Cape and Islands, Boaz strives to provide high-value service. His practice includes including tuning, voicing, appraisals, regulation, humidity control, piano sales, and complete rebuilding, and also provides authorized warranty service for Steinway & Sons and the Yamaha Corporation of America.

A Certified Factory Trained Steinway Technician, and a Trained Digital Player Piano Service Technician, Boaz also has unique experience working with German and Japanese pianos such as Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Schimmel, and Shigeru Kawai.

Through an affiliation with the local Yamaha & Steinway dealers, as well as several New York area piano brokers, Boaz can help you purchase a new or used piano, or help you sell your piano if needed.

Boaz was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Conservatory of Music at McGill University from 1991 to 1995. He has been a musician for 25 years and currently plays professionally on Martha's Vineyard.

As a highly versatile working jazz and pop bassist, Boaz understand musicians and their needs. He has worked with many artists both as a sideman and as a piano tuner.

A passion for music, woodworking, and engineering led to a career in Piano Technology. Boaz was accepted to the world-renowned North Bennet Street School in 2001. At NBSS he learned from some of the area's top technicians, including mentors David Betts, Debbie Cyr, Jack Stebbins and Christine Lovgren.

Upon graduation Boaz immediately started work at Steinway Hall in New York City as a tuner, regulator, and voicer. He trained with some of the world's most talented and experienced technicians and restorers, including Concert Technicians Ron Coners, Aleks Markovich, and Eric Schandall.

Following his tenure at Steinway & Sons, Boaz worked as a Concert Technician and Workshop Manager for the Steinway dealer in Sydney, Australia, where he honed his restoration and voicing skills. That position led to a special opportunity to travel to Germany and receive factory training at Steinway Hamburg.

Boaz was the first American technician to attend the comprehensive factory technician training course at the Hamburg factory. This multi-week, intensive hands-on course consisted of finishing a Steinway Model B grand piano to the highest standards of German precision.

He also received training in concert piano service in Europe at the original Bosendorfer workshops in Vienna, Austria.

Boaz also successfully met the rigorous requirements of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG), and was awarded the designation of Registered Piano Technician (RPT) after passing a three-day comprehensive exam which consisted of written and technical (repairs and regulations) exams as well as an aural tuning that was evaluated by three Registered Piano Technicians.

Boaz is an active member of the PTG whose mission is to facilitate the exchange of information regarding improvements in technology service of pianos among piano technicians. He has given clinics and seminars on his factory training in Hamburg and in voicing Steinway pianos.

Boaz is a member of the Rhode Island Chapter of Piano Technicians Guild.
